Biography of Veronique van Duurling
Véronique van Duurling was born on December 3rd 1982, and began
playing the guitar when she was 9 years old.
After completing her high-school diploma at the “Heilig-Hartcollege”
in Lanaken, she began studies at the Conservatory of Maastricht,
where she completed her Bachelor of Music in 2005. She continued
at the Conservatory of Maastricht to complete her “Post-Graduate
Degree” with Carlo Marchione in June 2009. She is currently
undertaking a course of study with the Duo Melis at the Strasbourg
Conservatory.
Véronique participated in masterclasses with, amongst others, Leon
Frijns, Betho Davezac, Enno Voorhorst, Carlo Marchione,
Roman
Krejci, Annette Kruisbrink,Tilmann Hoppstock, David Tannenbaum,
Lynn McGrath, Gaelle Solal, Goran Krivokapic, Zoran Dukic, Paolo
Pegoraro, Timothy Kain, Liviu Georgescu, Gerhard Reichenbach and
Pavel Steidl.
She has won numerous prizes, most recently being a major
prize-winner at the renowned Cordova guitar festival. Other prizes
include first prize in the solo guitar category of the 2000 „Jongeren op
het Podium“ competition in Lanaken (Belgium), and an award of
concerts by the prestigious Forte-institute in Belgium in 2008, which
saw her performing in the illustrious Academiezaal and the
Keizerszaal in Sint-Truiden. This year she was also awarded a grant by
the Dutch Prins Bernard Culturfonds to purchase a guitar by the
Australian luthier Greg Smallman and Sons.
She has also won prizes for her work with ensembles, winning first prize
in the guitar ensemble category of the 2000 „Jongeren op het
Podium“ competition in Lanaken (Belgium), as well as being a major
prize winner in the chamber music section of the 2009 Transylvania
International Guitar Competition (Romania), with Harold Gretton as the
Duo Amythis.
Recently the Duo Amythis was awarded a “Live Music Now” stipend,
which will see them performing concerts throughout the Baden-
Wuerttemberg region of Germany.
The eminent Dutch guitarist and composer Annette Kruisbrink praised
Véronique’s interpretation of Kruisbrink’s “Hommage to Segovia” as
the finest that she has heard (2005).
A dedicated pedagogue, Véronique van Duurling is in constant
demand as a teacher in various music schools in Belgium, Germany,
and the Netherlands. She successfully co-founded the private music
school „Two Notes“ in Düren (Germany), which continues to attract a
waiting list of students. She performs concerts regularly in Belgium,
The Netherlands, Germany, France and Australia, as a soloist as well
as in various chamber ensembles. She was also invited to perform in
concerts all over Ireland, in Romania and in Lucerne (Switzerland).
With a small group of students from the Strasbourg Conservatory, she
is currently organising the Autumn Guitar Series, with concerts in
Alsace, Kehl, and Gengenbach
